Deferring Aurora Project Creation Until a Designer Reviews (Design Queue)

How admins can defer Aurora project creation so a project isn't created until a designer in the design queue chooses to create it, helping design teams avoid duplicate or non-viable projects.

Overview

By default, when a rep submits an Aurora design request, the Aurora project is created right away. With deferred project creation, you can instead have the project not be created until a designer in the design queue chooses to create it.

This gives design teams a chance to review incoming requests first and filter out the ones they don't want to create a project for — for example, a property that already has a project (avoiding a duplicate) or a property that isn't viable for solar. For partners using Aurora with a design queue, this can present a meaningful cost savings.

Requirements

  • Your org must be using Aurora as a design tool.

  • Requests must route through an internal design queue. If you haven't set one up yet, see Admins: How to Set Up a New Design Queue.

  • The deal template must include a Design stage. The deferral behavior is what governs whether the rep can self-create a design in Aurora or has to wait for the designer — so the design stage needs to be present in the template for the restriction to apply.

How to Configure It

Deferred project creation is set per design tool configuration. The design tool setup needs to be adjusted depending on how you want to restrict the rep.

  1. Go to Settings > Design and open the Aurora design tool configuration.

  2. Set the option to defer project creation so the project is not created until a designer opts to create it.

  3. Confirm the deal template being used includes a Design stage (see Requirements above).

  4. Save your changes.

Note: How strictly the rep is restricted from doing their own Aurora design depends on how the design tool configuration is set up. Adjust the configuration to match the level of restriction you want for your reps.

What the Designer Sees

When deferral is enabled, incoming requests wait in the design queue for a designer to act. The designer can then choose whether to create the Aurora project.

If a project already exists for the property

If a designer sees that a project has already been started that could be reused, they do not create a duplicate. Instead:

  • The designer cancels the design request, and the existing project can be imported onto the deal as usual.

  • Alternatively, the designer can give the rep the existing project number and have the rep import it onto the deal.
